BATON ROUGE, La. — Cajun Navy 2016 has deployed a team of trained volunteers to Kerr County, Texas, to assist local oƯicials with swift water rescue and recovery operations following catastrophic flooding in the Center Point area.
The deployment marks a return to the community where the organization previously served during last year’s devastating flooding, helping search for survivors, conducting water rescues, and supporting recovery eƯorts alongside local emergency responders.
“Our hearts are with the families and communities aƯected by this disaster,” said Jon Bridgers Sr., founder of Cajun Navy 2016. “When people are facing their darkest moments, our mission is simple: show up, help where we’re needed, and stand alongside first responders and local oƯicials until the job is done.”
Unlike many volunteer organizations that respond to disasters, every Cajun Navy 2016 volunteer deployed on water missions is trained and certified in swift water rescue. That specialized training allows the organization to safely operate in dangerous flood conditions while working alongside emergency management agencies and first responders.
Teams are equipped to conduct rescues in fast-moving floodwaters, search aƯected areas, and assist with recovery operations as requested by local authorities.
Cajun Navy 2016 has responded to disasters across the country, providing assistance during hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and other emergencies. While many individuals and groups use the “Cajun Navy” name to describe volunteer disaster response eƯorts, Cajun Navy 2016 was among the earliest organizations to formally establish a nonprofit under that name, The general term “Cajun Navy” first gained widespread use in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, when volunteer boaters from Louisiana mobilized to rescue stranded residents—reflecting a long-standing tradition of neighbors helping neighbors in times of crisis.
